There’s no beauty in sadness…

Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world, despite being ranked as one of the world’s top ten countries that are rich in minerals. It also holds one of the highest records of violence against women and girls, in the West African sub-region. The ten years of rebel war officially accounts for nearly 600,000 women and girls violated during this senseless destructive civil conflict that ended in 2002. Despite the end of the war, its effects have contributed largely to the escalation of violence and abuse against women. Also it’s the women who represent between 60 to 80 percent of the agricultural labour force and I met this beautiful lady at a river crossing waiting patiently for an open space in the canoe to get her across. She sat down after a long walk through the heat of that day.
Kind, quiet but it was as if she had given up on life…

“When I look into the eyes of an animal I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I feel a soul.” ― Anthony Douglas Williams The world in itself isn’t a very great place for animals anymore where space and freedom for them disappears in a fast and tragic way. With my pictures I want to express the emotions and feelings they have. Animals are conscious and if you watch them closely you will see how they respond to the world. They play, they relax when things are good, they are frightened, angry and sometimes sad.. The only thing they cannot do is talk. I hope my pictures will do a bit of the talking for them...
